THIS IS ME

I have always been fascinated by art and colour. At high school you could always find me in the art rooms at lunch time and my uniform was always covered in paint or printing ink – much to the frustration of my parents.  It was a form of escaping and creating that I was just so in love with.

I went on to study Marketing at AIT (now Auckland University of Technology) and then spent the next decade working in marketing and advertising.  But the skills I learned in client management, budgeting, timings, project management and deciphering client briefs (the document kind) were invaluable in the next stage of my life.  This career choice also gave me great opportunities to live in the vibrant, busy cities of Sydney and London. Along with the funds to travel to such exciting destinations as Sweden, Morocco, Mexico and Argentina to name just a few. The places I saw and the things I experienced in these countries still influence me today.

After this time away I returned to my home town of Christchurch and studied for a year at Christchurch Polytechnic (Ara), Interior Décor and Design.  I gained a Certificate in Interior Décor.  I was lucky enough in Christchurch to work with the team who was developing Pegasus Town and while there I was in charge of the colour and finishes schemes for 3x spec builds.  I also worked at Freedom Furniture as a Decorator Consultant.

And then the worst thing possible happened.  The Christchurch earthquakes.  I was offered a position with Freedom Furniture in Auckland and leaped at the chance – after all, my home and work place were no longer there, what did I have to lose.

Whilst in Auckland I continued to work with Freedom (6 years total) and also had the good fortune to work at Warwick fabrics in the showroom and as a sales representative.

And then came along my hubby, Brad, who swept me off my feet and took me on another adventure.  Together we travelled through South East Asia for 6 months.  Again, I was blown away by the architecture, colours and interiors, especially in India, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

When we came back home, we decided to get out of the big smoke and moved to the sleepy seaside village of Whitianga.  Well, it certainly wasn’t as sleepy as we were led to believe!  I landed a job as a drapery consultant with the team at Guthrie Bowron and they were just as busy as any of the companies I had worked with in Christchurch and Auckland.  Working with GB too, I was introduced to a lot of wonderful trades people and locals who know how to get things done here on the Coromandel.

Before long we got pregnant and the next phase of our life begun.  Jono was born in 2019 and has been a total delight to us both. But it soon became clear that I needed to get my work-life, mum-life, creative-life in alignment, so in 2021 I started up Fe Style.  I saw a need for creating beautiful spaces and interiors and injecting personality and vibrancy into a home.

If like me, you love to create a collected, colourful, personality-filled home please do get in touch.
